Kyuryu Z wrote and drew the Japanese manga series Nights with a Cat (Japanese: 夜は猫といっしょ, Hepburn: Yoru wa Neko to Issho). Initially released on the author’s Twitter account in December 2019, the series was then bought by Kadokawa Shoten, who began releasing tankōbon volumes in October 2020. As of July 2023, five volumes had been issued.

Studio Puyukai produced an anime television series adaption that ran from August to September 2022, followed by an original net animation (ONA) from October 2022 to January 2023. A second season ran from March to November 2023.

Manga

The series debuted on Kyuryu Z’s Twitter account in December 2019. Kadokawa Shoten purchased the series and began publishing it in tankōbon form on October 29, 2020. As of July 2023, five tankōbon volumes were issued.

Yen Press revealed at Anime NYC 2021 that it has licensed the series for English release.

Anime

An anime adaptation was scheduled for April 26, 2022. It was subsequently revealed to be a television series created by Studio Puyukai, directed and written by Minoru Ashina, with characters designed by Minoru Takehara and music composed by Kana Utatane. The series aired on Tokyo MX and AT-X between August 4 and September 22, 2022. It then aired as an original net animation (ONA) on YouTube from October 12, 2022, until January 11, 2023. Kashitarō Itō sang the theme song, “Hinata no Kuni”.

The second season was announced on January 11, 2023. The actors and crew repeated their roles. It aired between March 8 and November 15, 2023. Kashitarō Itō reprises his performance of the theme song “Neko Neko Biyori”.

On Cat Day, the staff presented two images as well as a phony “Neko Neko Shimbun” newspaper ad introducing the third season.

The returning cast includes Ayahi Takagaki as Kyuruga, Satoshi Hino as Fuuta-kun, and Atsumi Tanezaki as Pi-chan.

The anime’s first season aired in August 2022. The season’s 30th and final episode premiered in January 2023. The show’s second season premiered in March 2023 and ran for 30 episodes. The anime’s cast and crew returned for its second season. The animation is also available through the official YouTube channel.
